President and CEO, Catholic Relief Services
Sean Callahan is President & CEO of Catholic Relief Services, the official international humanitarian agency of the US Catholic community. He is a 34-year agency veteran who has held a wide variety of leadership roles overseas and at agency headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland.
Sean served as COO from 2012-2016, responsible for Overseas & U.S. Operations and Human Resources. He was EVP for Overseas Operations from 2004-2012, and regional director for South Asia from 1998-2004. Before his assignment to South Asia, he served as director of Human Resources for CRS in Baltimore, and previously he worked in West, Central, and Southern Africa, Costa Rica, and as the director of the CRS Nicaragua program.
Sean is the Vice President of Caritas Internationalis (2015-2023), serves on the Executive Board and Representative Council of Caritas Internationalis (2011‒2023) and is the president of Caritas North America (2015‒2023). Sean holds a master’s in law and diplomacy from Tufts University, where he also received a bachelor’s, magna cum laude, in Spanish.
